Tarantula Activity Peaks in Colorado

by SHINE

Colorado is set to experience a surge in tarantula sightings, especially in Southeast Colorado near La Junta.

During August and September, male tarantulas leave their burrows in search of mates, a yearly event that draws significant attention. The “Colorado” brown tarantula, known for its dark brown to black hue, is common in the region.

Their mating season starts as temperatures cool in the evening and continues through October, sometimes extending into early November.

Nature enthusiasts can catch the best view just before sunset, around 5:45 to 6 p.m. While female tarantulas live up to 25 years, males typically live around 10 years.
